Violoop Backed

MartyCow • Portland, OR • 2 min read

For the first time in my life I backed a Kickstarter campaign! The project is called Violoop.

It's so cool that the campaign managed to raise more than $1,000,000 less than 24 hours. It was exciting to see the bar going up.

At the beginning of summer I saw an advertising post about the start of pre-registration for the launch of a Kickstarter fundraising campaign for the release of Violoop. The idea of the project seemed quite interesting to me, and I figured, why not back it. It offered to pay a $30 refundable deposit for the chance to buy Violoop at a discount of almost 50%.

Short video about Violoop

To put it very briefly, this is a small device that connects to a computer via HDMI and USB, meaning it sees your screen 24/7 over the network. The device uses a separate AI chip with a local model (Qwen 8B Q4 is used by default), but there's also a separate chip responsible for security. So, to perform any action, it needs to be confirmed by pressing a physical button on the device.

As a result, we have a local AI that sees your screen, can control the keyboard and mouse, and has an updatable contextual memory (that is, it learns from your actions). The device itself could, in theory, be used for absolutely anything, whenever needed — it doesn't need MCP, APIs, scripts, or anything else.

Overall, it sounds quite interesting to me, so I'm hoping to try it out in November. I'll definitely do a detailed review of all this.
